Laser Dentistry

Palmetto Kids Dentistry offers multiple state of the art methods when it comes to your dental treatment. The newest way to take care of your teeth is with laser dentistry!

What is laser in dentistry?

Laser dentistry is the use of lasers to treat patients while offering a more comfortable option for dental care. Laser dentistry removes the need for both drilling and shots! At Palmetto Kids Dentistry, we use laser dentistry to focus on gingival recontouring, tooth exposures, laser whitening, and frenectomies.

Is laser treatment safe for teeth?

Yes! Laser treatment is very safe. We use lasers to focus on the area that needs to be treated with the greatest of accuracy. Most patients experience minimal pain and swelling because there are no sharp tools.

Can laser dental remove old fillings?

Unfortunately, dental lasers cannot be used to remove old fillings. They can be used to prepare teeth for new fillings, whiten teeth, and shape gums. It’s even common to use a laser when wisdom teeth begin to erupt to ensure gums are shaped properly.

How long does laser whitening take?

Laser whitening is a process that uses a laser together with a bleaching agent and is applied directly to your teeth. Appointments for laser whitening can take anywhere from 30 to 90 minutes.

Typically, the effects of laser whitening can be seen for 6 months or longer! Some even say that they’ve seen their whitening last for about a year! Diet, oral health, and tooth structure play a major role in how white your child’s teeth will stay, and in keeping the sugar bugs away.

Does insurance cover laser dentistry?

In most cases, laser dentistry is covered by insurance. Most dental insurance covers specific procedures, regardless of the method. Coverage is dependent on what your dental insurance plan covers. If you have questions, give us a call and make sure you are taking full advantage of your insurance plan!
