At Palmetto Kids Dentistry, we know the insurance world, can feel confusing and overwhelming, especially when it comes to dental insurance. We’re here to make the process as straightforward as possible for you and your family. Our goal is to ensure your visit is stress-free so you can focus on what matters most: your child’s healthy smile. Below is a detailed guide to help you navigate dental insurance and what to expect when visiting our office.

Have a specific question about your child’s treatment and insurance coverage?

Give us a call.

We Accept Most Dental Insurances

We are proud to accept and be in-network with most dental insurance providers. This helps ensure families like yours can access quality dental care for their children. If you’re unsure whether your insurance is covered, feel free to reach out to us. We’re happy to help clarify any details.

Please Note: We are not in-network with HMO plans.

To make things easier for you, we offer convenient patient forms that are sent directly to your phone and/or email. Completing these forms ahead of time allows us to verify your insurance information and get everything in order before your appointment.

One important tip: It’s important to know what dental insurance company you have. There is not a universal system where we can look up your policy (unfortunately!), so you must let us know with whom you have coverage. Have questions? Just ask us!

Co-Pays and Treatment Costs

If your insurance plan includes a co-pay, we ask that for this to be paid on the day of service. This policy helps streamline the billing process and ensures there are no surprises down the road.

For non-routine treatments like fillings, extractions, or other restorative care, we’ll provide you with a detailed treatment plan that outlines estimated costs. It’s important to remember this is just an estimate. We always do our best to accurately project and clearly outline expected costs so you’re not left with a wildly different bill after your child’s appointment.

Dental insurance companies sometimes process claims differently than expected, which may result in additional charges. We’ll do everything we can to make sure our estimates are accurate, but a small discrepancy is always possible.

What If I Don’t Have Dental Insurance?

For families without dental insurance, we’re happy to offer discounts for self-pay patients. This ensures that every child has access to quality dental care, regardless of their insurance status.

What Parents Need to Know About Dual Insurance Plans

Does your child have two dental insurance plans? If so, it’s important to provide us with details for both.

Here’s a key point to remember: Medicaid is always considered the secondary policy. This means we must file claims with your primary insurance before filing with Medicaid.

It’s also important to understand that having two insurances does not guarantee zero out-of-pocket costs. Secondary insurance plans often don’t cover additional expenses beyond what the primary insurance has already paid. For example, if the primary insurance covers 50% of a filling, the secondary insurance may not cover the remaining 50%. Many families assume that dual coverage eliminates costs entirely, but that’s rarely the case with dental insurance. We wish it was!

Understanding Your Insurance Coverage

Dental policies vary widely from one provider to another, so it’s important to familiarize yourself with the specifics of your plan. Some policies cover 100% of fillings, while others may only cover 50%, or perhaps none at all. Being aware of your coverage helps you avoid unexpected costs and allows us to better plan for your child’s treatment.

Additionally, be aware of any recent changes to your insurance. If you’ve switched jobs or insurance providers, please notify us at least a week before your appointment so we can update our records. Insurance policies sometimes backdate cancellations, and this isn’t always visible in our system.

Keeping us informed ensures there are no disruptions in your child’s care.

Special Perks for Families

At Palmetto Kids Dentistry, we love going the extra mile for our patients and their families. Here are a few perks we offer to make dental care even easier for you:

  • Free Screenings for Children 2 and Under: Early dental visits are crucial for establishing good oral health habits. To encourage this, we provide free screenings for children under the age of two. These visits are a great opportunity to address any questions or concerns you have about your child’s oral health, and they help establish that going to the dentist is fun!
  • HSA Cards Accepted: Have a Health Savings Account (HSA)? You can use it to cover your child’s dental expenses.
  • Discounts for Self-Pay Patients: As mentioned, families without insurance can still access affordable care through our self-pay discounts.
